Go pro with your mobile phone

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

As you know we were a launch partner for Nokia’s Ovi Store back in May this year. We’ve just been exploring their site to see if we can find any advice on how to take fantastic pictures with your camera phone (we know, those ‘captured moments’ on your phone don’t always turn out to be photographic masterpieces). Anyway we came across this nice collection of tips & tricks from Nokia

It gives good, straight forward definitions of the types of effect you can create with your camera phone. If you look really carefully you’ll even see Touchnote stamp in the blog post!

They also claim that this shot was taken on a Nokia N86 - what d’ya think?

Create postcards with fun effects!

Darwin - wanted dead or alive?!

We’ve been partners with Photofunia for a while now, and we love the image effects they have - people have used photofunia to put themselves on billboards, on the mona lisa, even drawn on a blackboard!

It’s such a great way to personalise your card and make someone smile.

Now, you can use photofunia effects directly on touchnote.com:

See www.touchnote.com/make-postcard

How do I use the effects?

Just go to www.touchnote.com/make-postcard, and click the browse button to upload a photo.

When it appears, click on some of the effects on the right to see your picture in a new way.

What effects can I use for my postcard?

Darwin meets modern art

We’ve provided fifteen of our favourite effects for you to play with.

As a model, I’ve chosen this image of  Darwin - I hope he would see it as the compliment it was intended to be!

Some of my favourite effects are:

Be a work of art in a gallery…

have your face, or a friends face, plastered all over an art gallery - a great card for an arty sister or girlfriend perhaps?

…On a wanted poster

A great one for birthdays, or just to make someone smile - put them in a wanted poster!

Great to send to mates with a sense of humour, as an unusual birthday surprise, to fans of old westerns, or anyone a bit nefarious ;)

And loads more to choose from

We’ve only just touched the tip of the iceberg when it comes to great cards you can send with these effects - fashion magazine cover cards, jigsaw effect cards, or on the mona lisa!

We’re helping websites make money

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

So, you have a website that hosts photos and other images - wouldn’t it be great to let people coming to your website send any of those pics as a real printed postcard .. to anywhere in the world?

Well now you can. You add a tiny piece of code to your website and a little “send as a postcard” button appears next to the pictures you choose.

If you’re feeling creative, then you can design your own button, like some of our partners:

Now the making money part. For every postcard that’s made using one of your images, we give you a royalty payment. Yes, that’s for every card - so if someone decides to use a single picture from your site on 50 cards, we’ll give you a payment for each of those 50 cards. We think it’s only fair.

We’re also being extra generous - offering a payment of 30% for the next six months. But please sign up before 30th November 2009.

Interested? Here’s some more info about the programme and here’s where you sign-up

Now how about seeing some cards in action…

So Touchnote made a little trip down to the Photofair in Spitalfields market this weekend - some great photography exhibitions and photo-related services (I’m definitely going to try out the Shoot Experience treasure hunt at some point)

Acts of kindness while travelling

Acts of Kindness

Have you ever been offered a beer by a local in a shebeen or been shown the sights of a city when you’ve been totally lost? Well most of us have been lucky enough to be on the receiving end of an act of kindness while travelling (mine was to be given shelter in a 12th century castle in Syria for the night).

GlobalGiving, the online charity marketplace, recently held a competition to find the most compelling act of kindness travel story. GlobalGiving offers travellers the ability to make a real difference to the communities in the developing world that have helped them during their travel experiences. Through making donations to individual projects in specific communities, GlobalGiving enables people to keep a connection with places in the world that hold important memories for them.

Here’s a selection of stories from some media celebraties: http://www.globalgiving.co.uk/kindness/

Do you have an act of kindness travel story?

Photos become movies

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

It kind of reminds me of when I wanted to be a Disney animator. The “flick books” where I’d draw a series of stick men that were bouncing a ball, and then flick through the pages as if it were an animated. My first steps towards Jungle Book.

Saw this today which made me smile. Take a photo each day, and upload it to the site. And then it becomes a movie. I guess you need to be a little dedicated to do this everyday, but it’d be cool if you could. Might be amusing for someone’s that’s growing a beard, having a baby or losing their hair (hopefully not all at the same time). Still, looks like you could have real fun with your photos wit this one.

Gallery - grab a cuppa and have a browse

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Today’s another good day - our gallery has gone live. A lot of hard work, and we’re pretty proud.

But we know we’re not perfect - if you’ve got any feedback, please do let us know.

My favourites? Love the Dancing Shiva, the Stilt Fishing and the Fijian Shop. Now there’s no excuse to forget to send a card. And with Valentine’s around the corner….

Picasa and Touchnote

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Today’s been a great day for Touchnote. We’re very pleased to open the doors to Picasa, a new service that we’re offering. All you Picasa Web Album users will now be able to pull your photos across seamlessly. Effortlessly. Simply.

Let us know what you think!

Memories and sunshine

Monday, July 28th, 2008

It’s been a really hot weekend in London, no complaints at all. Time spent swimming, in the park and having long lunches. Lots of friends and family, it was loads of fun.

But the weekend went by too quickly. Suddenly it was Monday morning.

It’s exactly the sort of weekend that I will need to remember in about 6 months time to help me get through the January cold.

So what’s the best way to remember it? Take lots of photos? Write a diary (!)? Just commit it to memory?

Not quite sure I know the definitive answer, but I’ve got a few ideas. Answers on a postcard.

Best customs

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

There are certain customs that some families have. Eating dinner together every Sunday, come rain or shine. Sending postcards everytime you get on a plane and overnight somewhere. But these aren’t exactly imaginative.

My favourite that I’ve heard of recently is the Goldberg family from Argentina. They take a photo of all the different members of the family on a particular day of the year, every single year. And the pictoral timeline that comes from it is incredible. Something that I definitely want to instill in my family. I love the way that you can see the fashion influence - beards, long hair and glasses.
